Our Country Market Auctions are welcoming and friendly offering a wide range of prime livestock for buyers and sellers.  We secure excellent rates and provide an excellent venue for deadstock, buyers and sellers.  The Stanfords auctions are more than just the sales, we are a hub for the agricultural and livestock communities, bringing together the best from around the region.

Tuesday Colchester Livestock & General Auction Markets

Our Livestock Market dates back to 1900 and we are immensely proud to be the only weekly Livestock Auction in operation in East Anglia. Our weekly auction, held on a Tuesday, provides clients with the opportunity to source primestock from farmers located in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Cattle and sheep are purchased by butchers, wholesalers and other buyers who appreciate the quality primestock, efficient service and bustling atmosphere that the Stanfords Weekly Livestock Market provides.

Weekly auctions of prime and cull stock every Tuesday with Store sales on the last Tuesday of each month.

51 Cattle shorter entry, a trade with a touch more life but still at lower levels. Top this week 400pkg for a very smart Limousin heifer from Liam Byam (£2164) purchased by Paul Humphreys. Gary Hubert BB X heifer at 386pkg (£2173.18), Pauline Byam Limousin heifers to 369pkg and steers to 367pkg and topping the price per head on the day at £2528.63. S J Philp & Sons Limousin steers and heifers to 370pkg with others to 364pkg etc. P B Goodwin good Limousin steers and heifers to 356pkg (£2296.20 and £2257.04). AA steers to 371pkg from R J Scarfe & Partners with heifers to 348pkg. Michael Bates Limousin heifers to 360pkg. General run of cattle 330pkg to 355pkg with very few below. A Heath & Sons usual run of 6 Continental X heifers 348pkg to 360pkg. Please let us know as soon as possible with entries for next week, the trade does need monitoring.

352 Sheep a much reduced entry with new season lambs at similar trade levels to last week but several lambs not turning up. A very mixed entry of old season lambs, a strong trade for meat but plainer types much less demand. Heavy lambs to £216 from Richard Criddle, M R & J Taylor to £214, C W & D Chamley to £210 and to 450pkg for Richard Criddle, with others 435pkg, 420pkg etc. Medium lambs to £199 a head again from Richard Criddle. C W & D Chamley to £194 as were F Pearce & Sons with the Taylors to £193 and to 475pkg from Ricard Criddle with others 465pkg, 463pkg etc. Standard lambs to £183, £180, £179 etc for Richard Criddle and 4484pkg. Old season lambs a very mixed quality entry, £214 a head from Richard Criddle who also had £210, £202 (2) etc. M Byford to £200 at head. Billington Sheep to £195 and heavy old season lambs to 396pkg for Richard Criddle. Medium old season lambs to £182 a head from W Chantry & Sons, Billington Sheep to £180 to 417pkg from R Criddle. Standard old season lambs to £165 from W Chantry & Sons, £160 etc and to 444pkg. Lean old season lambs heavily discounted. Please keep in contact regarding numbers and trade trend.

50 EWES to £210 and to average £164.74 all in. Still a firm trade for all including very poor ewes from £5. Texel X ewes to £210, Suffolk Mules to £198, Polled Dorset ewes to £186, North Country Mules to £168, Welsh Improved ewes to £150, Border Leicester ewes to £186, Suffolk Mules to £192, Dorset Horn ewes to £170. More wanted.

Fur and Feather Auctions (Every Saturday)

Fur and Feather sale commences 9.45 followed by Plants, Bikes followed by yard sale commences at 10am and timber from 11.00.

Goods Accepted Thursday May 9am – 3pm, Friday 9am – 3pm, Saturday morning between 7.00 and 8.30. Fur and feather lots accepted for sale between 7.00 and 9 am on Saturday mornings

The gates will be open from 7.00am on the morning of the sale.
