Our Country Market Auctions are welcoming and friendly offering a wide range of prime livestock for buyers and sellers. We secure excellent rates and provide an excellent venue for deadstock, buyers and sellers. The Stanfords auctions are more than just the sales, we are a hub for the agricultural and livestock communities, bringing together the best from around the region.

Tuesday Colchester Livestock & General Auction Markets
Our Livestock Market dates back to 1900 and we are immensely proud to be the only weekly Livestock Auction in operation in East Anglia. Our weekly auction, held on a Tuesday, provides clients with the opportunity to source primestock from farmers located in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Cattle and sheep are purchased by butchers, wholesalers and other buyers who appreciate the quality primestock, efficient service and bustling atmosphere that the Stanfords Weekly Livestock Market provides.

Weekly auctions of prime and cull stock every Tuesday with Store sales on the last Tuesday of each month.

Latest Livestock Market Report
33 Cattle a short entry of 32 prime cattle of mixed quality a trade similar to last week, numbers could be increased. Top per kg this week Les Carr Copdock at 386pkg for a smart Limousin steer purchased by C J Byford & Sons (£2018.98) with another at 354pkg (£2120.46). Gary Hubert 2 BB X steers at 368pkg and 364pkg (£2278.64 and £2277.92). R Partridge & Son Ltd Simmental steers to 352pkg, 350pkg etc and to £2429.28 with BB X steers to 370pkg (£2203.36). AA X steers from Chaplin Brothers to 320pkg (£1971.20) as was Richard Revell with R J Scarfe & Partners to 325pkg. Limousin steers from R J Scarfe & Partners to 347pkg. A Heath & Sons Continental X Dairy heifers from 322pkg to 343pkg and to £1977.29.
634 Sheep a further increased entry included more lean lambs than in previous weeks with grass shortage becoming an issue. Feeding is required and as previously stated please draw lambs with flesh not weight. More resistance to trade over 50kg this week but lambs to £203 from J Coe at 56kg, B J Sherwin to £192, John Fisher to £187 and to 366pkg. Heavy lambs to £199 again from James Coe, with other pens from James at £195 (2) etc. A Compton to £192 and W B French & Sons to £190 and to 398pkg, 394pkg, 390pkg (2) for James Coe and P G & S L Stevenson to 389pkg. Medium lambs a strong enquiry to £184 a head for excellent Texel lambs from John Bacon, M & J Taylor to £178, J Coe to £177 and Ferry Farm Partners to £176 and to 414pkg from young Andy Green, John Bacon to 409pkg, the Taylors to 407pkg, 405pkg etc, Ferry Farm Partners to 405pkg. Standard lambs mixed quality meat to £160 from Andy Green and J Bardwell. Joe Backhouse to £150 as were Ferry Farm Partners and to 421pkg from J Bardwell, A Green to 410pkg, 400pkg. J Backhouse to 397pkg and Pip Bulgin to 394pkg. Meated lambs all day 360pkg to 420pkg with no classified lambs under 316pkg reflecting the consistent demand throughout the sale. Buyers forward to take leaver lambs for feeding around 330pk to 350pkg depending on weight.
138 EWES to £214 a head for Texel Mules and to average £153.64 all in with more lean lambs forward from £42 but very few under £100. Another strong demand for all ewes. Other Texel X ewes to £212 (2), £210, £200 etc. Suffolk Mules to £187, Charollais X ewes to £193, North Country Mules to £144, £140. Teesdales to £160, Kent Romneys to £174 with several pens £165 to £160. Ryland ewes to £148, Jacob ewes to £140, Polled Dorset ewes to £137, Grazing ewes £122 from £42 depending on breed.

Fur and Feather sale commences 9.45 followed by Plants, Bikes followed by yard sale commences at 10am and timber from 11.00.
Goods Accepted Thursday May 9am – 3pm, Friday 9am – 3pm, Saturday morning between 7.00 and 8.30. Fur and feather lots accepted for sale between 7.00 and 9 am on Saturday mornings
The gates will be open from 7.00am on the morning of the sale.
